Get your nails on trend!

Nails have to be the easiest way of getting on trend for a new season, and this time round, fashionistas are in luck, with a whole host of shades to suit your fashion choices and mood. Contact your Representative to find out the latest shades Avon has to offer. Definitely be sure to ask them about Arabian Glow Nail Enamel – it comes in three stunning shades, Gold Lustre, Purple Passion and Teal Infusion.

Suzanne Scott, writing for Elle UK, has explained that there are some wildly-different themes taking precedent on the catwalk, from 'working girl', which encompasses pale hues of brown and peach, or 'the seductress' which has gorgeous shades of deep blue and burgundy.

"Forget this season's smoky eye or red lip, all attention will be on your fingertips. Nails are having a fashion moment with Rihanna, Katy Perry and Beyonce all getting in on the act," she said.

Other themes include 'the adventurer', which has earthy tones such as khakis and deep browns, or the vivid and slightly wild 'maximalist', which boasts turquoise, purple and golds. The "nailed it" trend is bound to have something for you, and if you're looking to elongate your nails, then opt for a thin deep shaded stripe down the middle finished off with clear on top.

Fashion and Makeup Trends to ‘Fall’ For

Although the sun is shining in London today, we’re starting to feel the days getting shorter and the rain clouds visiting more regularly. The autumn weather may not be the most desirable aspect of the coming season, but there’s at least one thing that can (and always does) brighten our moods – the autumn/winter fashion and make-up trends!

Next season brings plaid skirts, military cuts, fur lining, under the knee skirts and low heels in fashion. Many of the A/W 2010 runway models accompanied their looks with a fresh face of make-up reminiscent of the S/S look. Where typically we’ve seen dark and defined in winter, it seems the soft ‘ballerina’ look is going to be a big one this season.

And we’ve got a few products on offer to help achieve it:

1) The shiny, pouty lip

Pinks, plums and nudes are the colours, shiny and healthy are the textures – keep your lips looking natural, hydrated and luscious this season, and Avon’s Pro Colour & Gloss Duo is the perfect edition to your handbag essentials list.

2) Anew clinical eye lift & thermafirm face lifting cream

Don’t panic! Just because nude and natural is the look, doesn’t mean you won’t achieve the perfect complexion without layers of foundation. Our fabulous Anew eye and face lifting creams help to minimise lines and leave skin looking young and vibrant – the beauty is there already, bring it out by incorporating these into your daily skin routines.

3) SuperMagnify Mascara

Mascara is, 9 times out of 10, the one “can’t leave home without it” makeup necessity. And in keeping with the soft look of A/W 2010, it’s the most important part of your day-to-day eye makeup that we suggest you hold onto. We suggest our SuperMagnify Mascara – affordable enough to use daily, but effective enough for all occasions.

So there you have it – 3 make-up essentials for A/W 2010… Colder and shorter days, what?

Summer is unfortunately soon coming to an end but this doesn’t mean the Festival Season is over – there are still plenty to choose from for a fabulous weekend getaway with friends!

However, when going to a festival, there are always a couple of things we ladies are concerned about… mainly, what clothes should I pack? Do I need to prepare for sunny or muddy days? And most prominently, what products should I pack to keep my shower-fresh feeling lasting as long as possible?

We all enjoy a bit of grunge time at festivals, but working at Avon has kept us in the loop with this year’s festival-fresh must have products. For a bit of Festival glam, style and freshness, we’ve got the perfect picks from head to toe

1. For fabulous looking frizz-free hair that can last even 2 days after your last wash, try our brand new (and big hit!) Avon Lotus Shield.

2. Never leave home (or your tent) without a bit of eyeliner – use our Supershock Gel Eyeliner Pencil for bold, intense colour that will last for hours.

Keep lips plumped and shiny with the Pro 3-in-1 Lip Wand. All that singing in the crowd won’t go unnoticed now!

3. To top off your festival fashion, indulge yourself in a fabulous, bold and chunky Alisha bracelet, with decorative raised dots reminiscent of the season’s tribal trend.

4. Keep your legs smooth and moisturised with our Skin So Soft Original Dry Oil Body Spray.

5. Who would have thought standing all day could lead to such aching feet? To avoid sore and damaged feet on the journey home, try our Foot Works Cherry Ice Cooling Foot Spray. It’s a miracle cure!

If you’re looking for further inspiration, don’t forget to visit our website, particularly our Festival Glam, Festival Fresh and Festival Fashion sections! Have fun!

Create no nonsense bridal make-up

Summer is traditionally wedding season and, for many females, it is a time to splash out on a new dress, make-up, designer shoes, hat – and that includes those who aren't even walking down the aisle!

One thing is for sure, however (as any women reading this will agree!) it is universally accepted that, even while we're excited about the big event, this is the time when all fashion, make-up and even lifestyle choices are put under scrutiny and that applies to whether or not they are the bride.

So, when it comes to make-up, what are the best ways to ensure you come out gleaming on the photographs next to a beautiful glowing bride?

First thing on the list is waterproof mascara – the last thing anyone wants to see is a face full of black smudges and, unfortunately, if that does happen, it is often difficult to claim back your dignity.

For women without extra long lashes, invest in some false ones to give you that added "pop" – apply with tweezers and, if they still need it, then add on a few swipes of waterproof mascara delicately.

Foundation should be breathable and, with the recent hot weather, melting is not a good look, so aim for a powder, or – if you need it – a liquid that looks natural and not as though you're wearing a mask.

Consider Avon's Ideal Shade tinted moisturiser with SPF as a light option, with Sunset Glow Bronzer for naturally sun-kissed look.

The theme for this season is monochromatic and the catwalk has been championing peaches and pinks, so invest in a cream eyeshadow such as Avon's Eye Radiance in Copper Glow and delicately line the eyes with brown liquid liner.

Pale colours will help to draw attention to the lashes and also to the healthy glow on your skin.

For the lips, try to find a colour that matches the eyes – a creamy shade that sits well and adds to an overall stunning look – you don't want one area of the face outdoing the other, the aim is for people to simply think 'wow she looks amazing' rather than 'I really liked her eye make-up'.

Finally, ensure all the little niggly things are taken care of – that your eyebrows are plucked or waxed to perfection, your upper lip is sufficiently bare and that your skin has been exfoliated until smooth.

Cosmopolitan Bride recently featured Anew Clinical Eye Lift in their 'bombshell bride' piece. It’s a great product and helps banish signs of any late nights or pre-wedding stress. Check it out.

Word of warning though, if you're not the bride and you follow these tips, there's a danger you might upstage her!

I love Fergie’s look in the Outspoken TV advert. To achieve the look for yourself, ensure that your base is matte. Use Avon’s cream to powder foundation, which will keep your face looking matte all day.

Fergie’s cheeks are extremely contoured. Feel for your cheek bone with your fingers and the fine line underneath it – that’s where your blush needs to go. Use russet true colour blush to sweep along this line, ensuring that you keep to this angle to get a great result. If you panic that you’ve got too much of a contour or have used too much colour, a good way to rescue it is to blend a loose powder into it. Use a loose or set powder brushed over the top of your cheeks, that will take the edge off. Dust it in circular motion over the contour to make it look more natural.

For your eyes, line all the way around the eye with Supershock gel eyeliner in steel, which is really long lasting. If you’re looking for extra drama, you could use the eyeshadow palette in mocha or latte as well. Use the dark colour across the lid and wing it out past the far edge of the eye. Blend the medium taupe colour into the eye socket, and then use the pale shade as highlighter on the brow bone. The eyebrows are really important with this look and they have to look immaculate. Avon’s new Pro-brow enhancer will do the trick. Then of course finish with lashings and lashings of Supershock mascara or SuperExtend Mascara.

On the lips, keep them nude. I like to use a nude lipliner all over the lip (not just to line it), which will make the colour last longer. Then use a lipbrush to apply ultra colour mega impact lipstick in nude. This will give it an even finish. Mega impact has quite a dewy finish so you should not need lipgloss as well. That said, if you’d like to add a bit of volume, add a dab of Glazewear Sparkle in the middle of the bottom lip and on your cupid’s bow – it’s the perfect finish.

Well it's been a busy few weeks for me, with lots more exciting work to come.

Jackie Tyson

I'm currently working with the Sugababes as their make up artist.. I've been working with them for a few months now, and they really are lovely, and great fun too. We spent last weekend in Monaco where the girls were performing at several events around the Grand Prix. One of the highlights was ensuring that they looked beautiful for Elton John's fundraising ball, which Liz Hurley, Rachel Hunter and David Furnish also attended.

I'm also in meetings to discuss my work with ITV's Britain's Got Talent. I did the make up for the final contestants last year - it was a very exciting week with so much adrenalin flying around. It was great working with Susan Boyle, but I had absolutely no idea who would win until the winner was announced. It will be brilliant to be involved again this year - I can't wait.

Check out my video tutorial on how you can create that key look.

I’ll be writing another later on this week about Fergie and how you can create her style. What do you think about her makeup look and is it something you’d like to try?
