WHAT:   Avon Advance Techniques Professional Hair Colour Media Launch

WHERE: Andrew Barton Hair Salon, 25 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 8NA

WHY:
Introduce media to Advance Techniques Professional Hair Colour

WHEN:   Monday 4th April, 2011

We all know there's nothing quite like a change of hair colour to re-vamp your image and boost your confidence and with this in mind I made my way to London to see what all the hype was about and WOW - what an exciting day it’s been! I was kindly invited by our Public Relations team to join them at Andrew Barton’s Hair Salon in Covent Garden to witness the buzz and launch of our NEW Advance Techniques Professional Hair Colour Collection to the beauty press.

The salon looked stunning and was alive with chatter and laughter. Throughout the day there were loads of journalists popping in to view live hair colouring demonstrations by Andrew, which gave them a great opportunity to see the before and afters and a chance to ask questions. After the demonstrations, journalists were also treated to a wash and blow dry from an Andrew Barton stylist before leaving with a gift bag.

Declan, a lovely stylist at Andrew Barton’s approached me and asked if I would like my hair done – obviously I snapped up the opportunity! Never been one to achieve wonders with my long locks, I was thrilled! Firstly, he washed my hair in Advance Techniques, then blow dried it, adding in amazing amounts of volume using our Large Barrel Brush - I’m definitely going to be investing in one of these! He also used Long Beautiful Anti-Breakage Spray which is a handy strengthening treatment, ideal for long hair and finished it with Daily Shine Mirror Shine Spray which helps reduce frizz and boost shine. I loved the results. It was light, bouncy, glossy and smelt gorgeous. Even my husband noticed!

Check out our video of Carley - she's was one happy lady! She went from a fairly dark brown to a deep blonde. What a stunning transformation – it looks so natural and perfect for summer.

We've got some more great videos of the press launch to share with you over the next few days - so make sure you subscribe to our beauty blog.

Advance Techniques Professional Hair Colour goes on sale in the UK on May 12th. Give your Representative a call for more info.

On Wednesday 22 December, Avon will bring its biggest ever worldwide singing and song writing talent search to Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Sheffield. The beauty giant is calling on wannabe stars to showcase their singing talent in the Avon Voices mobile recording studio.  Entrants will be competing for a place in the international stages of the Avon Voices talent search, launched to celebrate the company’s 125 year anniversary.

The talent search will be judged by industry stars including Black Eyed Peas singing sensation Fergie, grammy nominated singer/songwriter and UK mentor, Natasha Bedingfield, as well as song writing legend Diane Warren. The winner will have the chance to record a professionally produced album, which will be available to buy internationally.

“I’m looking for individuality and style. Don’t be afraid! Show us what you got. We’re looking for superstar quality, not just technicality.” Fergie

Rising stars who record a song in the booth will be rewarded with a free bottle of Avon’s Outspoken by Fergie fragrance.  The first ten who take the plunge and record a song as a talent search entry will also receive a signed Black Eyed Peas tour brochure.

The Avon Voices mobile recording studio will be situated in the lower arcade, near to Marks and Spencers in Meadowhall, and will be open from 9am – 10pm.

Those who can’t make it down still have a chance to showcase their vocal flair by entering the talent search online. Everyone in the UK is also invited to back our country’s talent and rate their favourite videos when they go live on www.AvonVoices.com on 1 January 2011.

In order to be eligible to enter the singing element of the competition, applicants must be female and aged 18 or over, although both men and women aged 18 or over can enter the song writing search.  The Avon Voices celebrity panel will announce the 200 first round global contenders on International Women’s Day (8 March 2011), with any successful UK singers and songwriters being treated to a glamorous video shoot in Paris.

Further rounds will then take place in New York and Hollywood for those that are successful in the later stages.

So remember, there are three ways you can participate…

1. Audition in the Singing Talent Search
2. Enter the Songwriting Competition
3. Be part of the Avon Voices community and help find the next global voices

‘Sing-Song’, Avon Calling!

Last week, Avon brought its biggest ever worldwide singing and song writing talent search – Avon Voices – to Bluewater shopping centre in Kent. Wannabe stars turned up in their droves to showcase their singing talent in the Avon Voices mobile recording studio booth. From shoppers debuting their singing skills to trainee stage stars, the mall was packed with performers hoping to make it all the way in the Avon Voices talent search.

Anna Segatti, President of Avon UK & Ireland comments:

For generations Avon has been empowering women to find their individual voices, tell their stories and share their dreams. Now we are asking women to find their singing voices.  We are thrilled to have Natasha Bedingfield on board to join us in the hunt for the UK’s next big star. If you’re an avid singer or songwriter now is really your time to shine and be in with an opportunity to win this once in a lifetime chance with Avon Voices.”

Two incredibly lucky Avon employees won a Twitter Competition to attend the British Fashion Awards 2010 – here’s how they got on at one of the UK’s most prestigious events of the year!

So I'm a bit of a competition addict – any comp that is giving away free clothes, or vouchers for clothes, or experiences in fashion you can guarantee that I've entered it. I'd just like to say right now; I never win! Never! So you can imagine my surprise when I received an e-mail last Thursday from a, Rosanna Falconer from the British Fashion Awards (also the London Fashion Council) telling me that I'd won 2 tickets to the British Fashion Awards at the Savoy Theatre on Tuesday (7th December) I couldn't believe it! I invited a friend from work who I know has a passion for fashion and all things celebrity!

Anyway, the night arrived and I had chosen a beautiful floor length sequined number from Top Shop in a (tight) fitting fabric – black of course! Coupled with my patent Louboutins and an incredible Faux Fur jacket that wouldn't have looked out of place in a gangster's rap video, the whole outfit reeked of 1960's Hollywood Glam (just the way I'd intended it too) and I took particular care when applying my Avon make-up (well what else could I possibly use and yes I used lashing of SuperShock mascara, MagiX and Mega Impact Lipstick!). My friend Sandra looked F-A-B-ulous in a black dress with amazing 'flapper girl' style creases throughout, it created a beautiful silhouette which she teamed with a stunningly simple white blazer, just the right note to finish off a fantastic guise.

Arriving at the Savoy was possibly the most exciting moment of my life; we glided down the red carpet, which was littered with members of the public desperately trying to catch a glimpse at the hundreds of celebrities that were already inside. We walked up to the big gilt double doors and handed over that grey and silver embossed invitation!

Before we went in to the champagne reception we had a quick photo call outside on the red carpet – now, I have to say I'm not a massive fan of having my photo taken but even I could get used to that treatment! Once we were inside we received a black poker chip and told to take the stairs down to the bar. We were met with a glass of champagne and had about 45 minutes before the show started which gave us plenty of time to do some celeb ogling.

Although we didn't get to talk to any celebs we were blinded by all of the glitz and glamour that was on display at the Savoy – everyone looked like they'd just jumped out of the pages of Vogue! There was a buzz in the room and we were acutely aware that we were surrounded by the very people who decide and define the season’s current and future trends that we adapt in our day to day lives.

The awards ceremony was pure class, with a stunning tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen (RIP), presented by Claudia Winkleman (who looked fabulous in a pair of Charlotte Olympia heels) I swear she is the only woman I know that could pull off patent leggings and a black poncho and call that black-tie couture!

The awards flew by, with Claudia Schiffer, Yasmin Le Bon, Alexa Chung, Brian Ferry and Daisy Lowe (to name but a few!) giving the awards and winners such as Alexander McQueen, Nicholas Kirkwood (accessories), Lara Stone (model of the year), E. Tautz (menswear), Naomi Campbell (special recognition), Alex Chung (British Style), Pheobe Philo for Celine (designer of the year) the list continues…

The awards drew to a very swift close and we were escorted out of the Savoy, dinner was delicious at Salierie with a selection of French and Mediterranean cuisine. Had to be quite crafty when the owner tried to ply us with shots of Limoncello but we're nothing if not resourceful and swiftly found a way to dispose of it.

By the way my face wasn't actually that white, I can thank my camera for that!

At about 11pm we made our way to Movida – we had been provided with a red ribbon that would gain us access, not only to the club, but to the VIP section. Of course there were a few similarities with a standard night out with the girls…the obligatory guy that looks kinda cute but turns out to be a complete nightmare by spilling a drink all over you (thank god I was wearing a black dress COVERED in sequins, let's be honest I couldn't get any shinier could I?) Oh and the girls that you always think to yourself, how the hell did they get in here? But despite the horrific dance moves of some of the more intoxicated members of the ‘fash pack’ and some incredibly brave outfits the entire night was beautiful, glamorous and utterly fabulous (to use but a few adjectives).

So, I have now set myself the gargantuan task of ensuring Sandra and I get tickets NEXT year, so watch this space!
